Menopause Together is a charity founded by Roisin Hillman and Fiona Brown, designed to support the women of Northern Ireland in receiving access to education, support and community as they navigate Peri-menopause and Menopause.
At Menopause Together, we believe that a woman's life doesn't end at Menopause. In fact, we believe it blooms into a new and empowering stage of life that can be harnessed for personal growth and fulfilment. It's our mission to bring women back to their power and celebrate their magic.
For us, education is the key to a safer and healthier world for women. For too long we have been in the dark about our bodies, the ways we can seek comfort and balance and the resources we can access to live a better life. It's our mission to bring as many resources as possible to as many women as we can.
There's power in community. Women shouldn't have to suffer in silence or navigate this journey alone. That's why we're devoted to bringing women together, championing their voices and celebrating new connections. Through Menopause Together, you can find a tribe to rely on.
Menopause Together is here to support all women of all backgrounds. We're committed to supporting women of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, religious backgrounds and women with disabilities. We highly value our diverse community and continuously work to better understand and support every woman we have the honour of serving.
From the beginning of the Menopause Together journey, we have carried the ethos of 'honouring the individual' with us proudly. We understand that every woman's experience is personal to her, and it's crucial that every woman is given the space to express themselves and be heard. Your experience is yours and we value you wholly.
Leading with compassion and kindness is the secret for everyone here at Menopause Together. Every event, educational workshop, personal interaction with our community and engagement with experts and professionals is underpinned by a dedication to kindness, empathy and compassion. You'll always be welcomed with warmth, heart and soul here.
We're delighted to introduce you to our founders, Roisin Hillman and Fiona Brown.
Both Roisin and Fiona came up against two very different experiences of Peri-Menopause and Menopause, and after much thought, research and impassioned conversation, they decided to create something positive out of their life experience.
There was a common thread between Roisin, Fiona and the many women they spoke to when researching the effect of Menopause on Northern Irish women. That was a lack of information, support, and timely treatment.
Fiona describes feeling really angry at having to educate herself and learn about the symptoms, treatments, NICE clinical guidelines and the many other nuances that come along with this stage in life because her GP wasn’t trained. Concerned that other women may have similar experiences, Fiona felt compelled to do something about it.
Similarly, founder Roisin, whilst recovering from hysterectomy surgery, had set up the Menopause Support Group NI on Facebook in 2021 to reach out to other women who might be dealing with the same issues as she was. It was here that Fiona connected with Roisin and the idea for a women's charity was born.
"We went out to thousands of women on the Facebook group and asked what they would want from a charity and the results of the survey were really clear. Women wanted better access to the right information, access to specialist Menopause clinics, greater public awareness and better education of women and health professionals. They also wanted support when they were struggling with symptoms."
Since then, Menopause Together has bloomed into a charity that makes a difference. With conferences, workshops and a thriving support network, the need for this work becomes more apparent, day after day.
